Quick answer: A National Assembly audit on 14 October 2026 found that foreign visitors to Korea now stay 6.5 days on average, down from 7.8, even as arrivals rose from about 11 million in 2023 to 18.9 million in 2025. Explera DMC Korea builds group programmes that fit six or seven days.
What did the audit find?
At the National Assembly audit of the Korea Tourism Organization on 14 October 2026, Rep. Jeong Yeon-wook presented figures showing arrivals rising from about 11.03 million in 2023 to about 18.94 million in 2025, while the average stay fell from 7.8 days to 6.5. Per-person spending on accommodation fell 17.8% and on dining 16.9%.
The repeat-visit rate has stayed at 54 to 56% for four years, and he asked the KTO to add stay length and repeat visits to its performance indicators.
What does a shorter stay mean for group programmes?
- Six or seven days is the realistic frame. We build the core programme to fit it, with optional extensions rather than a long default.
- Fewer hotel changes. On a short stay, two bases beat three. Every move costs half a day.
- Second region by rail, not by an extra day. KTX puts Busan or Gyeongju within about two to three hours of Seoul, so a second region need not add a night.
- Repeat visitors want something new. With more than half of visitors returning, a second-time group often skips Seoul highlights for a region it has not seen.
Three shapes that work in six or seven days
- Seoul and Busan. Arrive in Seoul, KTX south mid-trip, fly home from Busan where the airline allows.
- Seoul and Gyeongju. Palaces and markets, then two nights among Silla tombs and temples.
- Seoul and Jeju. A short domestic flight adds volcanic coast and resort time.

Frequently asked questions
How long do foreign visitors stay in Korea on average?
About 6.5 days, down from 7.8, according to figures presented at the National Assembly audit of the Korea Tourism Organization on 14 October 2026.
How many foreign visitors did Korea receive in 2025?
About 18.94 million, up from about 11.03 million in 2023, according to the same audit figures.
How many days should a first Korea group programme be?
Six or seven days works for most groups: Seoul plus one more region, with two hotel bases.
Can Explera DMC Korea add a second region without adding days?
Yes. We use KTX to Busan or Gyeongju and open-jaw flights where the airline allows, so the second region replaces days rather than adding them.
