Korea Travel App and Card Problems: Brief Your Groups

26 October 2026 · Explera Trade Desk · 4 min read

Quick answer: A Yanolja Research report, first published in April 2026 and raised at the October National Assembly audit, found complaints in about 11% of English-language Reddit posts about travel in Korea, against about 7% for Japan, with app sign-ups and foreign card payments leading. Explera DMC Korea briefs every group on these gaps before departure, so free time does not stall.

What did the report find?

Yanolja Research read English-language Reddit posts about travel in Korea and Japan from January 2023 to December 2025. It first published the analysis in April 2026, and lawmaker Kim Yoon-deok brought it to the National Assembly audit in October 2026.

About 11% of the Korea posts carried at least one complaint, against about 7% for Japan. For Korea, digital services were the largest category. It is a reading of what travellers chose to post, not a survey of every visitor, but it matches what our guides hear on the road.

Which Korea travel app and card problems come up most?

  • A Korean phone number. Many apps and booking sites verify identity through a Korean mobile number, which a visitor does not have.
  • Declined overseas cards. Cards issued abroad are refused on some Korean websites and at some counters.
  • Blocked from abroad. Some apps limit access from foreign IP addresses, so a client trying to book before the trip may not get in.

What goes in the group briefing?

  • We book what needs local verification. Restaurants, shows and timed tickets in the programme are reserved by our desk before arrival, not left to an app.
  • Two ways to pay. Clients carry a second card on a different network and some won in cash for small stalls.
  • Data from landing. An eSIM or roaming plan should be working before the coach leaves the airport.
  • The guide covers the group. Group services are paid on site by our team; free-time spending stays with the client.
