Quick answer: Korea has four clear seasons, and the right packing list changes with each. Spring and autumn are mild but change through the day, so layers are the answer, with a light jacket. Summer is hot and humid, with a rainy season, so light clothing, rain gear and sun protection matter. Winter is cold and dry, often well below freezing inland, so a warm coat, hat, gloves and thermal layers are essential. In every season guests walk a lot — palaces, markets, hills — so comfortable, broken-in shoes come first. Explera DMC Korea gives agents a season-specific packing note for the client briefing.
Season by season
- Spring. Mild days and cool mornings and evenings; layers and a light jacket. Some days bring haze or fine dust, so a few masks are useful.
- Summer. Hot and humid, with a rainy season; light, breathable clothing, a compact umbrella or rain jacket, a hat and sun protection.
- Autumn. Clear, dry and pleasant, cooling through the season; layers again, and a warmer jacket later in the autumn.
- Winter. Cold and dry, colder inland and in the mountains; a warm coat, hat, gloves, scarf and thermal layers, and warmer still for ski or snow programmes.
What every guest needs
- Comfortable walking shoes. Palaces, markets, temples and hills mean a lot of walking; shoes that are easy to take off help at temples and traditional restaurants.
- Socks without holes. Guests often remove shoes in temples, hanok and some restaurants.
- A day bag. For water, a layer and shopping, since the coach is not always nearby.
- Adapters and a power bank. Korea uses its own plug and voltage; a power bank keeps phones working on long days.
What to leave to buy in Korea
- Cold-weather extras. Hats, gloves and heat packs are easy to buy in any convenience store.
- Umbrellas. Sold everywhere in the rainy season.
- Skincare and toiletries. Many guests plan to shop for Korean skincare anyway, so travel sizes are enough.
- Room for shopping. Suggest guests leave space in their luggage, or bring a folding bag.
Why it matters
The right clothing is the difference between a comfortable day and a miserable one, especially in winter cold or summer rain. A clear packing note sent with the final documents saves problems on the ground and questions to the tour leader.
It also sets expectations: a guest who knows it will be cold at a winter festival or wet in the rainy season is far less likely to be disappointed.
