Quick answer: Korea's 2027 calendar guidelines, published in June 2026, show ten stretches of three or more days off, including Seollal on 6–9 February and Chuseok on 14–16 September. Domestic travel peaks on those dates. Explera DMC Korea checks every 2027 group date against them before we quote.
The long weekends
- 1–3 January. New Year's Day with the weekend.
- 6–9 February. Seollal: Seollal itself falls on Sunday 7 February, so a substitute holiday follows on Tuesday 9 February.
- 27 February – 1 March. Independence Movement Day with the weekend.
- 1–3 May. Labor Day with the weekend and a substitute holiday.
- 17–19 July. Constitution Day with the weekend and a substitute holiday.
- 14–16 August. Liberation Day with the weekend and a substitute holiday.
- 14–16 September. Chuseok, Tuesday to Thursday.
- 2–4 October and 9–11 October. National Foundation Day and Hangul Day, each with a weekend and a substitute holiday.
- 25–27 December. Christmas with the weekend and a substitute holiday.
Why they matter for groups
- Domestic demand. Koreans travel on these dates, so hotels outside Seoul, high-speed trains and highways fill first.
- Seollal and Chuseok. Many shops and restaurants close for part of the holiday, and opening hours at sights change. We check each venue for the date.
- Coaches and guides. Holiday weeks are in demand, so we hold them early.
How we plan around them
Where a group's dates can move, we steer away from Seollal and Chuseok. Where they cannot, we book rail and hotels early and plan the route against domestic traffic.
Our public holidays briefing explains what changes on the ground, and our peak weeks briefing covers hotel space in the busiest inbound periods.
