Quick answer: Korea is a long-standing favourite for groups from Taiwan and Hong Kong, and it is easy to operate. Passport holders from both can visit visa-free for short stays, and the current K-ETA position and arrival-card rules are set out in our entry-rules guide. Flights are short, so trips are often four or five days, sometimes repeat visits focused on one city. Mandarin-speaking guides are widely available in Korea; Cantonese-speaking guides are scarce, so Hong Kong groups usually take a Mandarin or English guide with their own tour leader. These groups value food, shopping, skincare, cafés, K-drama and the seasons. Explera DMC Korea plans the guide and programme with the agent.
Entry and documents
- Visa-free for short visits. Taiwan and Hong Kong passport holders can enter Korea without a visa for short stays.
- Check the K-ETA position. Whether a K-ETA is currently needed, and the arrival-card rules, are covered in our entry-rules guide; check it for each departure.
- Other passports in the group. Guests travelling on other passports may have different requirements.
- Confirm for each departure. Rules change, so confirm before every group.
Guides and language
- Mandarin is common. Mandarin-speaking guides are widely available, though busy in peak weeks.
- Cantonese is scarce. Cantonese-speaking guides are few; Hong Kong groups usually take a Mandarin or English guide with their own tour leader.
- Written materials. Programme notes in traditional Chinese help every guest follow the day.
- Book early for peak seasons. Blossom, autumn colour and holiday weeks fill guide calendars first.
What these groups value
- Food. Markets, Korean barbecue, seafood in Busan and regional specialities.
- Shopping and skincare. Cosmetics, fashion and duty-free are central for many guests.
- Cafés and K-culture. Café streets, K-drama locations and photo spots.
- Seasons. Cherry blossom, autumn colour and snow are strong reasons to travel.
Why it works
Korea combines what travellers from Taiwan and Hong Kong enjoy most in a short break — food, shopping, pop culture and seasons they do not have at home — within a short flight. Many are repeat visitors who want something new each time.
The operational question is language. Plan the guide first, add written materials in traditional Chinese, and the rest is straightforward.
