Quick answer: Comprehensive test runs on the Incheon KTX began in September 2026, on a new 3.19 km link joining the Suin Line to the Gyeongbu high-speed line via Songdo. Incheon is aiming for a year-end opening, reported as not fixed. Explera DMC Korea quotes the current route until a timetable is published.
What is being built
- The link. A new 3.19 km section joins the Suin Line to the Gyeongbu high-speed line, so KTX trains can start from Incheon.
- The stations. Songdo, Choji and Eocheon are being expanded for the service.
- Progress. Reported in mid-September as about 86% complete.
Where it stands
- Test runs. Comprehensive test operations began in mid-September 2026, covering signalling, power, station buildings and platforms.
- Next steps. Facility verification tests in October, then trial commercial operation.
- Opening. Incheon city is pushing for a year-end opening. It is not a fixed date, and reporting says it could slip by one to two months.
- Timetable. The number of trains, their frequency and the timetable are still under review.
What it could change for groups
- Songdo as a starting point. A group staying in Songdo, for a congress or a first night near the airport, could board in Incheon instead of transferring to a Seoul station first.
- Reported journey times. About 2 hours 30 minutes to Busan and about 2 hours 10 minutes to Mokpo.
- Luggage still needs a plan. A group on the train still needs its bags handled, and a coach often carries them ahead.
- Seats depend on the timetable. How many trains run each day decides whether a whole group fits on one departure.
How we quote it now
Until a timetable is published, we quote the route that runs today: a coach to a Seoul station, then the KTX. For departures after the opening, we can show both options and confirm once services are on sale.
We do not sell a train that is not yet running. Our KTX group briefing covers seat blocks and luggage, and our convention cities briefing covers Songdo as a congress base.
