Korea Group Luggage: Forwarding, Storage and Rail Days

24 September 2026 · Explera Trade Desk · 6 min read

Quick answer: On most days of a Korea group programme the luggage is the coach's problem: it goes in the hold in the morning and comes out at the hotel. Three kinds of day are different. Rail days, because a group boards and alights in the few minutes a train stands at the platform. The last day, when the hotel check-out is at noon and the flight is at night. And island legs, where the cases fly with the group. For each there is a better answer than carrying everything: send the cases ahead by road, store them and tour light, or forward them to the airport. Explera DMC Korea plans which applies to each day of the programme before it is quoted, not on the morning it happens.

The three days when luggage decides the itinerary

  • Rail days. Thirty passengers can board a KTX in the minutes a train stands at a platform; thirty large cases, plus the people pulling them, make that much harder. The cleaner answer is usually to send the cases by road and let the group travel with day bags.
  • The last day. Check-out is typically around midday and a long-haul departure is often late in the evening. Without a plan, the group spends the afternoon near its cases rather than in the city.
  • Island legs. A Jeju flight means the cases travel as checked baggage, under the airline's allowance. A group whose international allowance is more generous than the domestic one finds out at the check-in desk.

The four options, and when each fits

Send the cases ahead by road

For a Seoul–Busan or Seoul–Gyeongju rail day, the cases go on a separate vehicle and are waiting at the next hotel. It costs a vehicle and a driver, and it is the option most groups remember as the one that made the day easy. It needs the cases ready and tagged early, because the vehicle leaves before the group does.

Store them and tour light

On the last day, most hotels will hold a group's cases after check-out. Confirm it when the rooms are contracted — a group's worth of cases is not the same request as one guest's — and plan the afternoon so the coach collects the cases on the way to the airport.

Same-day forwarding to the airport

In May 2023 Seoul Metro, with Hanjin Logistics, launched T-luggage: bags dropped at counters in Seoul Station, Hongik University, Myeongdong and Gimpo Airport subway stations are delivered the same day to Incheon and Gimpo airports (Korea.net, 22 May 2023). It suits free-time travellers more than a coach group, and it should be confirmed as still operating, with its current cut-off time, before it goes into a programme.

Hotel-to-hotel delivery

Courier delivery between hotels can be arranged, but transit time depends on the route and the operator, so it should be confirmed when the programme is quoted rather than assumed. It is the right choice when the group's next stop is somewhere a separate vehicle would not justify.

What to tell the client before departure

  • One large case per person is the planning assumption. If the group travels heavier, say so at booking: it changes the coach size and, on rail days, the luggage vehicle.
  • Label every case with the traveller's name and the group name. On a forwarding day, an unlabelled case is the one that goes missing.
  • A day bag for the rail day and the last day. Medication, documents and a change of clothes travel with the traveller, never in the forwarded case.
  • Shopping is luggage too. A group that shops heavily in Seoul leaves with more than it arrived with; plan the last day's coach and allowances for it.
  • Domestic flight allowances are the airline's, not the DMC's. Check them against the group's international tickets before the Jeju leg is sold.

Handled on the ground, day by day

Explera DMC Korea plans luggage as part of the programme, not as an afterthought: a luggage vehicle on rail days where the itinerary justifies it; cases stored and collected on the last day so the group tours until the airport; forwarding options confirmed as operating before they are quoted; tags and a luggage count handled by the guide; and a 24/7 operations desk on Korean ground time for the morning a case does not arrive.
