Korea Fam Trips and Site Inspections for Agents and Planners

28 September 2026 · Explera Trade Desk · 6 min read

Quick answer: A fam trip and a site inspection look alike from the outside — a few days in Korea, hotels and venues, a guide — but they are different jobs. A fam trip teaches agents a destination so they can sell it; its measure is what they quote afterwards. A site inspection checks one specific programme before it is contracted; its measure is whether the planner can sign. Booked as the same thing, both go wrong: the fam trip turns into sightseeing, and the inspection shows showrooms instead of the rooms the group will actually use. Explera DMC Korea builds each for its own purpose, and says before either is booked what it will and will not cover.

Two different jobs

  • A fam trip is product education. Several agents, several hotels and experiences, and a route that shows what a Korea programme can look like. It succeeds if the agents can quote Korea with confidence afterwards.
  • A site inspection is due diligence. One planner, one programme, named dates and a known group size. It succeeds if the planner comes home able to sign the hotel, the venue and the ground contract.
  • Mixing them costs both. A fam trip with inspection-level detail is too slow to show the destination; an inspection padded with sightseeing leaves no time to walk the venue twice.

What a useful site inspection covers

  • The group's real path. From the coach drop-off to the lobby, from the lobby to the meeting room, from the meeting room to the dinner — walked at the pace of the group, not the sales manager.
  • The contracted room type, not the showroom. Ask to see a room of the category in the quote, on a floor the group might be given.
  • The menu, tasted. Especially for dietary requirements that matter to this group.
  • Transfers at the programme's hour. A drive that takes a short time at midday can take much longer in the evening peak. Time the ones that matter.
  • The people who will run it. The hotel's event manager, the venue's technical lead and, where possible, the guide who will be assigned.

Building a fam trip that sells

  • Fewer hotels, seen properly, rather than a lobby a day. Agents remember the rooms they slept in.
  • Product before sightseeing. The experiences agents can actually book for their clients, not the ones only a fam group ever sees.
  • Time with the operations team, so agents meet the people who will answer at two in the morning.
  • A quote sheet at the end, not a brochure — the programme they have just done, costed for a real group size, so the first proposal is easy to write.

What to agree before either is booked

  • The purpose, in one sentence. "Inspect the hotel and venue for the March incentive" and "introduce six agents to Busan and Jeju" are different trips.
  • Who pays for what, in writing: flights, hotels, meals, guides. Assumptions on either side are the most common source of friction.
  • The dates, checked against the calendar. An inspection in a congress week sees a hotel at its busiest, which can be useful or misleading.
  • What happens afterwards: the quote, the hold on rooms, the follow-up call.

Built for its purpose

Explera DMC Korea arranges fam trips for agents and site inspections for MICE planners, each built for its own job: inspections that walk the group's real path and time the transfers that matter; fam trips that show bookable product and end with a costed programme; and a 24/7 operations desk on Korean ground time throughout.

Send the purpose, dates and number of participants to b2b@explera.kr or WhatsApp +66 93 656 8090. Explera DMC Korea is IATA TIDS-registered (96215733) and an ASTA member (#900408341); our KTO and KATA registrations are in application.
